For business owners

Turning your most valuable asset into personal wealth

For most owners, the business is the balance sheet. It's the largest asset, the income source, and the retirement plan, all in one illiquid position. The work that matters is converting that into personal wealth that can support you and your family without depending on the company.

That's what we do. We don't run the deal. We work on what the money becomes.

Harbor Point Advisors is an insurance agency based in Bozeman, Montana, working with clients across the United States. Adam Stevens is a licensed insurance professional specializing in safe money strategies: guaranteed income and protection from market loss. Harbor Point Advisors is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer.

What we don't do

These belong to your broker or banker, attorney, and CPA. We work alongside them, not in place of them.

Common questions

Who helps you decide what to do with the money after you sell?

Your deal team (banker, attorney, CPA) gets you to the closing. What happens to the proceeds afterward is a separate question, and it is the one we work on: how much needs to produce dependable income, how it is positioned for taxes, how much should be protected, and how you move off a single concentrated asset into a structure that supports you for decades.

Do you help with the sale itself?

No, and that's deliberate. Valuation, deal terms, buyer negotiation, and the legal work belong to your broker or banker, attorney, and CPA. We don't compete with them. We work alongside them on the part most owners have no one for: what the money does afterward.

When should a business owner start this conversation?

Earlier helps, but it isn't all-or-nothing. Before a sale, more is workable: how proceeds are received, which tax year they land in, and what's already built outside the business. After a sale, income design, diversification, and ongoing tax positioning are all still fully open.

What should I do with the proceeds from selling my business?

The first step usually isn't investing. It's deciding what the money has to accomplish: the income it must produce, how much risk that actually requires, and what portion shouldn't be exposed at all. Structure follows those answers rather than leading them.

Can you help before I'm ready to sell?

Yes, and this is often the more valuable timing. Most of an owner's net worth sits inside one illiquid asset. Building personal wealth outside the business, and planning how the conversion will work, is worth doing long before a buyer appears.

Do you work with business owners outside Montana?

Yes. Harbor Point Advisors is based in Bozeman, Montana and works with clients across the United States. Clients in other states are a normal part of our practice.
